Something New Chapter 1

I felt all dried up. Finished. Which was really stupid. I’m only 58, I have a long way to go. Yes, I’m older, but there are plenty of older vibrant folks out there.

I should get back into Yoga. Go to a Soul Dancing event. Keep moving. OK I’ll do that.

That’s when I met Dave. I wasn’t really looking for anyone, really, just minding my own business and checking my email sitting in a local Starbucks.

I’m divorced with one 21 year old son away at college, and other than my dog Puffin who is the world’s greatest pug, it’s really pretty quiet around here.

I work as a real estate investor in a small office near my house, and just have one assistant Angie who is terrific and has been with me for years. Not only is she smart and efficient, she is also one of my most trusted friends. Basically, other than arguing with my ex-husband, life is pretty good.

I had just hung up after arguing with my ex about politics again (his views are just to the right of Attila the Hun), sitting in the Starbucks, minding my own business when Dave said, “Excuse me, is this seat taken?” It was crowded, but he could have found somewhere else if he wanted to, but what I heck, I said, “No, feel free.”

He was cute, tanned, with a nice body and a nicely trimmed beard. He looked to be in his early 30’s. He had on a Coachella T shirt on and sandals. Nice feet too. Don’t ask.

He started talking to me and eventually asked for my number. “I don’t think so. I’m too old for you.”

“No you’re not, you don’t look anything over 40.”

“Well, I’m much older than that. “

“Look, I just want to get to know you better. I haven’t lived here long and don’t know that many people.”

“OK.” I reluctantly gave him my cell number and then I said, “Look, I have to go.”

“Bye Wendy!”

“Bye!”

I cannot believe this. To my surprise I found myself thinking about him in the coming days, and a few days later he called.

He took me out to a really nice fish dinner up in Malibu on the coast. We had a few drinks and generally had a fun time.
