The countdown is on! It’s my final week of work before I take off on parental leave for 4 months. The sheer thought of not having to worry about money and helping people that aren’t family for 4 months is insane to me.
If you read my previous story about my past, you can probably get a sense of how this is a big thing for me. For nearly 20 years, I’ve been in customer service and it was my mission to put others first. Now I’m faced with the reality that I’m free from this commitment for 4 months. It’s an unusual and freeing feeling.
I catch myself worrying about how the landscape of my job will change while I’m gone. I worry about my teamates struggling without me. Then I look at the photo at the top of the page that I recently took and I sigh with relief.
For the next 4 months I get to witness and raise this little gem. She’s going on 8 months now. She’s teething, close to crawling and also starting to develop a personality. There isn’t a day that goes by that she fails to make me laugh. I get to be front row to it all, 100% attention to her.
As a father, I’m so greatful I can take this time. I know I haven’t experienced it yet but I still strongly urge you to take parental leave if you’re a father.
Whatever happens with my job, whether my team is abolished while I’m away or not, I don’t care. I’m with my family, do not disturb.
